Sega made some rather big announcements at the recent SXSW panel in celebration of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary. It first announced that Sonic Mania was delayed from Spring to Summer. While a reason wasn’t provided, new enemies were teased along with the Flying Battery Zone making a return. There will also be a collector’s edition vinyl album and bonuses for pre-ordering.

Meanwhile, Project Sonic 2017 officially has a name – Sonic Forces, named after the conflict between the forces of good and evil. Running on the new Hedgehog Engine 2, it’s still due to release later this year and Sega showcased a brief gameplay clip. It featured third person gameplay as Sonic moved through the ruined city revealed in last year’s trailer.

Multiple routes through levels, two different styles of gameplay focused on classic Sonic and more have been promised with the gameplay arriving later today for all.
