Cronus PRO v1.12 and CronusMAX PLUS v1.22 Firmware Update

Written by News on . Posted in CronusMAX News, News

The Call of Duty® World League were presented with some challenges as their tournaments are exclusively PS4 and all controllers are Bluetooth. One huge room, a couple hundred controllers – as you can imagine, it wasn’t pretty.

We were approached to help solve this problem because one of the unique abilities of the CronusMAX PLUS, is that it can fully bypass the Bluetooth of a DualShock 4 and connect a stock wireless controller as wired, via a USB cable. As this feature was not currently available from Sony®, the CronusMAX PLUS was the perfect solution to make sure the events could still take place without any problems.

However, after the first couple of tournaments a number of Pro Players complained of minor to severe lag. We attributed this to the fact that many of the devices hadn’t been configured correctly for the PS4, that some were setup different than others. This would account for the variations in lag experience – however there really shouldn’t have been any lag at all. We’ve had Cronus in Pro Tournaments before (for example Comic Con 2015 in London had a great MKX event – all the Xbox One’s had a CronusMAX and the Pro’s loved it).  Given the amount of feedback we were receiving, and somewhat brutal pushback from various social media channels, we couldn’t ignore that there had to be a problem. So we have spent the last couple of weeks on the workbench, liaising with Activision® to make sure they knew that the Pro Players voices had been heard and we were doing everything in our power to first find the problem and then to solve it – before the Call of Duty® XP 2016 Championships started on September 2nd.

After a thousand cups of coffee, we discovered a remarkably obscure anomaly in the code that did indeed cause a very small but noticeable amount of lag, at random times and at random lengths. It’s testament to how good these Pro Players actually are that after all this time it went unnoticed, because the second they played it was spotted instantly.

The speed of the controller will now match the console 1:1. It’s been tested by many Pro Players via Activision® and they unanimously agree that the problem has been 100% solved. This really was a tough problem folks, however we do appreciate the good amount of constructive feedback that we received from the Pro Community (even though some of it was brutal!) We’re happy that we managed to nail this one in time for Champs – hopefully you guys are happy too as it will benefit ALL CronusMAX users. Some comments from the Pro Players who on the beta test program….

“This is 100% better, feels like there’s no CronusMax plugged in which is the main goal!”

“Definitely feels a lot better if any delay at all. Thank you.”

“Only used these settings in a FFA and feel much much Better”

“Feels a lot better good job”

“These settings definitely feel a lot better than before.”

“I wouldn’t even know the Cronus was being used – amazing difference!”

If the CronusMAX PLUS is good enough for the Pro Gamers at the World Championships, it’s good enough for all gamers.

We also rolled in a bunch of other new features and fixes into this release including adding Logitech Driving Force GT support to the PS4 Wheel Edition – with full Force Feedback Support.

I would also like to reiterate, after seeing some comments on social media channels, when in Tournament Mode, it is 100% impossible to use any mods or scripts to gain any kind of advantage. The CronusMAX PLUS is being provided and configured by the event organizers and will display the letter ‘t’ on the LCD screen to indicate that it is in Tournament Mode.

The Forum, Inglewood, CA – September 2nd – 4th 2016 – Buy Tickets From TicketMaster

Please Note: All attendees must be 18 years of age no later than Friday, September 2nd, 2016.

bbcWe also highly recommend the custom hardwired DualShock 4 controllers from Battle Beaver Customs – the premier leaders in custom controllers. They make an amazing DS4 that has the battery and usb sockets professionally removed and a high quality Micro USB cable that’s hardwired directly to the PCB of the mainboard. If you’re looking for that extra edge, this it it.

They’re currently being supplied by special order only to Pro Players in time for XP 2016, but I know they’ll be taking pre-orders very soon from the general public. Hit them up for more details.

Note: This is a non paid endorsement, we recommend these controllers from personal experience.

New CronusMAX PLUS GamePack Class & Mod Notifications

Written by News on . Posted in CronusMAX News, News

It is now easier than ever to navigate through the different GamePack Classes and Mods with your controller – especially if you have a CronusMAX PLUS as you can use the new Backlight LED Notification System.

However we have also added a new method for Xbox One controllers where the triggers will rumble – this is particularly great for those who have an older version of CronusMAX as there are no player LED’s on the controller. The rumble option is available on selected GamePacks.

Cross Over no longer working on Xbox One after update?

Written by News on . Posted in CronusMAX News, News

Yesterday’s 6.2.12998.0 Xbox One system update by Microsoft introduced many updates and fixes including and undocumented fix of reducing issues people were having with wireless controller connections.

Unfortunately this inadvertently disabled the authentication from working with the CronusMAX, but don’t worry we already discovered this issue during the beta (preview program) phase of the update and released the fix to our support forums and updated the CronusMAX Manual last week as a preemptive strike. As many don’t seem to like to read manuals these days we’re getting a lot of worried folks calling and emailing so we figured a news post may help out too 🙂

This system update now gives the wireless protocols priority over a wired USB connection. So if you try to authenticate with an Xbox One controller while the batteries are left in (it is still powered when you unplug it from the CronusMAX) it will reconnect over wireless and prevent the CronusMAX from operating.

So, to prevent this from happening, you simply need to remove any batteries from your Xbox One controller before authenticating. That’s it.

Easy 🙂

New Hardware Design Changes & Improvements

Written by News on . Posted in

The CronusMAX PLUS is the third generation in the range that surpasses all of it’s predecessors in terms of design and quality, making it more reliable and electronically sound than ever before.

The CronusMAX PLUS has been engineered to VALOR standards which are the highest electronic design specifications in the industry.  Everything is scrutinized including controlled differential, controlled impedance,  differential arrangement of resistors, shunt term thickness and routing of the VCC and GND traces to maximize current flow and minimize signal loss and interference (not to mention there must be separate planes for BOTH GND and VCC – we’ve seen many faulty PCB layouts where they only have one or two GND planes and no dedicated VCC plane – this is a massive fault in design), placement of the caps on the USB lines, the amount of vias including placement, spacing and thickness, and last but not least critical by-pass caps that should match the data-sheet of each IC. All of these issues have to be considered and are absolutely crucial when designing a PCB. If none of these are taken into account then the design is flawed and will fail any VALOR test. In short, If it passes VALOR, it means it’s perfect. Both CronusMAX (V2 2014) & CronusMAX PLUS (V3 2015) passed every VALOR test.

Many problems were solved with the CronusMAX (V2 2014) & CronusMAX PLUS (V3 2015) hardware design and the difference in performance compared to its predecessors far exceeded our expectations. Heat dissipation was drastically lowered and the amount of current drawn from a controller was dramatically decreased. We are confident that any competitor products that show even a remote similarity to the old predecessors line of products would show similar numbers to the non-VALOR figures in the results below.

The USB Input socket has also been corrected (previous models had the socket inverted so that your USB devices were being plugged in upside down), and the outer bracket was also reinforced to protect against any accidental damage (think of a child tripping over a wired controller cable whilst connected to the CronusMAX, the design of its predecessors could sometimes cause the socket to break loose giving an E1 error – that issue has now been resolved with a much stronger bond between USB socket and PCB).

The plastic shell was completely redesigned using higher quality production molding and techniques so that it was made not only mechanically correct for PS4 operation, but also more aesthetically pleasing and far more durable against everyday wear and tear.
